OUR TIP TOP TRAVEL TIPS

Smartphones and Tablets are such handy devices to take when travelling. Due to the apps that you can download, you can turn your device into a map, portable translator, currency converter, library of books and more!

Here are some of our favourite Travel Apps that should be packed for your next holiday!

ULMON CITYMAPS2GO

This app tip has been sent in by reader David Jones (Thank you David!).

Ulmon CityMaps2Go is available on both iOS and Android and the good thing about it is you don’t need Wifi, 4G, 3G or any G, but just satellite.

You can’t get lost if you’re in a big city with it!

Download the city map you are visiting (there are many) and the flashing dot will be you and you just walk around with it in your hand just like if you have a paper map.

GOOGLE TRANSLATE

Google Translate is available on both iOS and Android and just like Ulmon CityMaps2Go, you don’t need Wifi, or an active internet connection.

You can download languages onto your device which lets you translate languages without an internet connection and if you do this before you leave, you’ll be right as rain!

To choose and download languages, these are the steps you need to take.
1. Make sure you’re connected to a Wifi network.
2. Open up the Google Translate app.
3. On either side of the screen, at the top, tap the language.
4. Next to the language you want to download, tap Download (Downwards arrow icon). If it’s not there, the language can’t be downloaded.
5. If asked to download the language file, tap Download.

Next to each language saved on your device, you’ll see the Downloaded symbol (A check mark in a circle).

GOOGLE PHOTOS

Available on both iOS and Android, Google Photos will automatically upload your photos from your device to their cloud server when you have a wifi connection!

So after a long day of travelling around and taking photos, your photos will be automatically backed up if you have wifi access (for example at a hotel).

This means that if your phone’s storage is getting full, you can delete some photos as they’ll be backed up in the cloud!

The best thing? It’s unlimited storage space for free! All you need is a Google account which are free to sign up too!
