See If Your Password Has Been Leaked

CHECK TO SEE IF YOUR PASSWORD HAS BEEN LEAKED

One of the biggest security issues when it comes to online accounts is compromised databases and using the same password!

Because if you use the same password for everything, then hackers will only have to learn one password to access everything of yours. A good analogy to think of is if you used the same key for your house and your mailbox. If you dropped or lost your mailbox key, somebody could pick it up and get your junk mail, but they could also open up your house!

That’s why it’s super important to use different passwords for everything.

But how do you know if one of your passwords have been compromised? This handy website https://haveibeenpwned.com/ regularly checks hacker websites and forums for leaked data and is able to cross-check it with your email address.

For example, when I checked with my personal email address I found that two of my passwords had been leaked.

I was then able to scroll down and find out what websites had been compromised and what passwords I shouldn’t trust. Because like most everybody I sometimes use the same password for multiple things.

If you’re ever worried about your password being leaked, change it! It costs nothing to do and could save you a ton of hassle.

As an aside: The word pwned means “utterly defeated” and it made it’s apperance in online video games. For example, “We pwned the other team, because our score was twice as big.”
