WhatsApp May Stop Working On Your Phone

WHO DOES THIS AFFECT?

AND IS IT ME?

WhatsApp is a popular wifi messaging app that allows for seamless communication all over the world with only an internet connection. It even allows for wifi calling!

However, it’s recently been announced that WhatsApp will no longer support older versions of Android, iOS and won’t work at all on Windows phones. This is because WhatsApp needs to stop these older operating systems from using the app in order to ensure the security of its users.

Android Phones
Android phones running version 2.33 or earlier will lose support at the end of January. This version came out in 2010 so if your phone is less than 10 years old you’re safe as long as you’ve updated your phone.

To see what version you’re using, simple do the following:

  • Open Settings
  • Click on the ‘About Phone’ option
  • Click on ‘Software Information’
  • Then the first line should be ‘Android Version’ which tells you what version you’re using.

Apple Phones
Apple iPhones running iOS or earlier will also lose support at the end of January. This means that if your iPhone is a iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5 or earlier, than you’ll have to make sure you update your device if you wish to keep using WhatsApp.

To see what version you’re using, simple do the following:

  • Open ‘Settings’
  • Click on ‘General’
  • Click on ‘About’
  • Then if you scroll down a little, there’ll be a line with ‘Version’ which tells you what version you’re using.

Windows Phones
Unfortunately, every single Windows phone will lose the ability to use WhatsApp as they’ll no longer be supporting the phone regardless of how up to date it’s software.
