Great Apple Reminders Features

Great Apple Reminders Features
There’s more to this simple app than you’d expect!

Apple has had their simple but useful Reminders app automatically provided on Apple devices for quite some time now. It began as a basic reminder system that sent notifications at specific times but now offers so much more! Here’s a breakdown of some of the features it provides.

How to set reminders
Before we can do anything fancy, it’d be good to know how to set up reminders. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Reminders App
  2. Tap ‘+ New Reminder’ and type in what you want to be reminded about. You can also add notes for the reminder for extra information.
  3. Click Add

If you want to add a date/time to your reminder, click the Date and Time button No alt supplied for Image. You can choose from Today, Tomorrow, This Weekend, or you can click Date & Time to set your own date.

To edit a reminder, select the reminder and click the Edit Details button, No alt supplied for Image.

To complete a reminder, simply tap the circle to the left. This will tick it off and remove it from your list.

Other Basics
Some other things you can add for reminders:

Set a location for the reminder. This means you’ll be sent the notification at a specific location. To set up:

  1. Create a new reminder
  2. Click on the Location button, No alt supplied for Image
  3. You can select one of the options provided or tap Custom to choose your own location and when it will be sent.
  4. Click Add
  5. Important note: you will need Location Services turned on in the reminders app to access this feature

Flag a reminder. This is to mark the reminder as extra important, making it appear in the Flagged list within the Reminders app. This is done by clicking the Flag button, No alt supplied for Image, when creating your reminder.

Fun Reminder Features
Did you know you can use the Reminders app as a shopping list? This feature allows you to create a grocery list that automatically sorts different items into sections. For example, if you add Apples to the reminder list, it will autosort it into a Fruits & Veg section.

You will need to turn on iCloud for Reminders. If you’re logged into iCloud on your device, this should be selected automatically. Additionally, the primary language will need to be English as this feature has not been added in other languages yet.

How to set it up:

  1. Open the Reminders app and tap ‘Add List’
  2. Add your name and icon to the list and then tap ‘List Type’
  3. Tap ‘Groceries’
  4. Tap ‘Done’

Now as you add items to the list, it will sort them into their respective categories, making shopping a whole lot easier!

Using Siri
One last feature that I use every day, is asking Siri to add items to different lists or set reminders.

To set a reminder using Siri, say “Hey Siri, set a reminder to (say what you would like to be reminded about) for (date and time)”. Siri will now set a reminder for you! It will also read the reminder back to you. If it is incorrect, you can press ‘Change’ when it is set if she misheard you or you need to change the time.

You can also ask Siri to add items to different lists. If you have a Grocery list set up, you can say “Hey Siri, add (item) to the Grocery list” and she will add that item. It will then automatically be sorted when you open the app. Super useful!
