3 Reasons Why Your Phone Might Not Be Charging
WHY WON’T MY PHONE CHARGE?
And how do I fix it?
Our smart phones are some wonderful tools! They allow us to stay in contact with loved ones, surf the internet and offer a plethora of apps to entertain and delight us. However all this goes in the trash when our phones won’t charge!
Without battery, our phones are just expensive paperweights. Usually this is no problem as we can just plug them in to charge them right back up. But when our trusty chargers stop working it can be frustrating trying to figure out why.
The 3 most common problems for this are as follows:
1.) Your charging cable or wall plug is broken.
Often times it isn’t the phone but instead it’s the charger that you’re using! When we constantly use our cables like we do with our chargers, the wires inside the casing can get split and broken. This can even happen when everything looks fine on the outside. A key symptom of this starting to happen is when your charger only works in a certain position.
Solution: Firstly, check with another cable and/or wall plug that you know works to see if it’s the charger or your phone. If it is the cable, then you’ll have to get another one. Big stores like Kmart often have cheap replacements.
2.) Your charging port is full of lint!
Everyday we put our phones in our pockets and bags and a very small amount of lint can work it’s way in. Then when we plug our phones in, all we do is push that lint in further. When too much lint builds up, the charger can’t connect properly.
Solution: Take a small wooden toothpick and very gently scrape the inside of your charging port to try and work some lint out. Make sure not to use anything metal as you may accidentally damage your charging port and make the problem worse!
3.) Your battery could be dying.
Unfortunately our phones aren’t perfect and one day will start to deteriorate with age. Batteries start to loose charge faster and eventually won’t charge back up at all.
Solution: Unfortunately there’s only two solutions and they may be costly. You can try to get the battery replaced by an expert. Or you can get a new phone.
EXCITING WORKSHOP NEWS…
Firstly, a huge Thank You to everyone who has attended one of our weekly online workshops, now conducted remotely via Zoom. When Covid-19 first hit in March, we were worried about the impacts on the business, as ReadyTechGo is known for “Face to Face training”.
As a small business, we are nimble and able to pivot quickly to adapt to the changing environment, taking our in-home visits and group workshops all online.
We’ve been so pleased to hear how well remote one to one lessons and remote group training has gone, so Thank you for adapting with us!
On the good news front, we have secured a further grant from BeConnected (the government initiative aimed at helping Older Adults gain digital skills) to extend our workshops for another year (Thank you to everyone who takes the time to register on the BeConnected website and nominate ReadyTechGo as their Learning Centre. This shows the government that learners are attending and helps them to identify which organisations to provide grants to).
This means we can continue to provide free group training until June 2021 – YAY!!!
We understand how important it is to have digital skills, especially during this pandemic where all essential services are moving online. From October, we will be increasing our webinars to twice per week, giving you more opportunity to learn (and be entertained by Matt).
So if you have a workshop topic in mind, please email us your workshop topic requests!
October also celebrates Get Online Week. From Monday 19 October, we will be holding extra online events including an Online Trivia (with prizes to be won). So keep an eye out for upcoming newsletters with more details.
Stay well, and stay healthy!
