How to Slash Your Telco Bill and Save MONEY!
SLASH YOUR TELCO BILL AND SAVE MONEY
Let us show you how
It has been about 12 months since we wrote about Slashing your phone bill, so it’s a good time to revisit this for 2019!
Last week, I was assisting a client who wanted to get a new ADSL Bundle with his Telstra Phone Plan. Upon calling Telstra (which is a headache in itself), I found out that he was on a $90 phone plan which did not include unlimited calls. He was essentially paying Telstra $90 per month to rent the phone line. It was absolute robbery!!!!
I was so annoyed for him. After speaking to Telstra, we changed his $90 phone plan to a $69 home and internet plan which includes: 100GB of internet data and unlimited standard and national calls. We had the $99 connection fee waived, along with the $2.20 monthly fee for a paper bill (Really Telstra? He’s been paying $90 per month for years!).
The sad thing is, your Telco provider will never call you to offer you a better deal, and if you don’t check the latest deals, you’ll be paying the old rates such as this gentleman has been for years. It’s always good to do an audit of your current Telco plans and ensure you’re on the best plans, and same goes with your mobile phone plans!
I actually get a thrill when I assist people with their smartphone plans and seeing how much money they can save simply by making a quick switch! Here’s how:
SWITCHING TO A SMALLER PROVIDER
Many of our clients are with larger Telcos such as Telstra, Optus and Vodaphone.
I spoke to a client yesterday who was spending $50 per month on a sim only plan from Telstra, and her husband was on a $100 Telstra plan. Her plan included 1GB of internet data and $500 worth of calls and text. This was an old plan, and Telstra have now updated this plan with more inclusions – however they won’t call you up and update your plan for you. You need to call them!
I discussed the plan with my client, and we worked out what she needed in a mobile phone plan. We made a few changes, and she is now paying $25 per month, and getting more for her money! Her husband is also changing to the $25 per month plan. So, we have just saved the both $100 per month, and they are getting more value for their money!
Original Plans: $50 sim only + $100 Plan = $150 per month
New Plans: $25 per month each = $50 per month
HOW?
By switching over to a silent achiever! Smaller providers are reselling Telstra, Optus and Vodaphone coverage, without the high prices. There are many smaller providers on the market, and here are our top picks:
ALDI MOBILE
Aldi sells SIM cards online and through its supermarket chain, and offer really great value on Telstra network.
We chose Aldi Mobile for our client so she could stay on the Telstra network.
We opted for their “L” pack and for $25 per month, you get the following:
- Unlimited standard calls
- Unlimited SMS
- 9GB data (Last year it was 4GB, so they are always updating and giving up more value)
- Plus unlimited international calls and SMS to 15 countries*
As you can see, we slashed her mobile phone bill by $25 per month, and we gained an additional 8GB of data to use per month, along with unlimited calls and text!
What’s even better – You can keep your existing mobile number! I was quite impressed with Aldi’s process. We activated the Aldi sim, chose to keep our phone number, and within 20 minutes, the Aldi sim was up and running!
AMAYSIM
Amaysim runs on the Optus network, and has some great sim only plans.
We chose Amaysim for another one of our clients, as they were already on the Optus network and didn’t need much data.
We chose the “Unlimited 2.5GB” deal for $20 a month, which included the following:
- Unlimited standard calls
- Unlimited SMS
- 2.5GB data
Amaysim also offers a “Unlimited 1GB” deal for $10 a month. This includes unlimited calls and text and 1GB of data, so it’s a great option for those who don’t need much data in their phone deal.
KOGAN MOBILE
Kogan mobile runs on the Vodaphone network, and has some great sim only plans. If you’re happy to pay for 365 days upfront, their deals are unbeatable!
For example, their Medium Plan includes:
- Unlimited standard calls
- Unlimited SMS
- 13GB data
If you choose to pay monthly (every 30 days), you pay $29.90. If you choose to pay 365 days upfront, you pay $205.60, which works out to be $16.90 per 30 days!
We have switched a few clients to these 365 day plans, and many ask “What’s the catch???”
It’s just a really good deal!
If you are currently with Telstra, Optus or Vodaphone, it’s definitely worth revisiting their current deals, and thinking about switching over to a smaller provider such as Aldi Mobile or Amaysim (providing you are out of contract with them ie. not paying off your phone).
