YET MORE SPAM IN OUR INBOXES
We almost fell for this one…
Spam and scammers go hand in hand together. That’s why they take so much effort to appear as a company such as Telstra saying you have an overdue bill when you don’t.
Our Administration Assistant Cody recently received the following email that’s supposedly from Lisa!
This email looks like something Lisa would send from her iPad when she was busy but needed something done. Luckily Cody noticed that the email address it was sent from was definitely NOT Lisa’s email. Cody checked that Lisa didn’t send it (by sending her a separate message) and once confirmed it was spam, he ignored it and marked it as spam!

Here are two more example of spam emails that we’ve received. Both emails claim to be an outstanding invoice with a button or link to view the invoice. However, hovering the mouse over the button/link shows that it’s for a dodgy website!
THE TELL TALE SIGNS OF SPAM
We’ve mentioned these tell tale signs before, but it never hurts to mention them again. When it comes to spam you have to be on your toes!
SIGN #1: Who is it from?
Look at the “From:” email address in the first example. it’s trying to imitate Lisa Du with it’s name but the email address is actually “firstname.lastname@example.org“.
SIGN #2: No names!
Notice how the fake Lisa didn’t address Cody by his name, this is often an indication that this spammer only had his email and is trying to make it generic sounding as to not call him by someone else’s name. Another tactic that they may use is to call you by your email address so it would say something like “Hi email@example.com“.
SIGN #3: Poor English and grammar!
While this example doesn’t have any sure signs of poor grammar, a lot of scams do!
It only takes a single lapse of judgement so please be mindful and aware of these signs!
